I have been working in the web the industry coming up on almost ten years now! Since I’ve started I’ve seen many fads rise and fall. I’ve built sites in everything from plain old HTML to XHTML to DHTML and every content management system you can imagine.

With everything I’ve seen, some things have persisted to be tried and true in working with clients to develop websites. The keys for me, items that I always focus on, are search engine optimization, converting visitors into whatever you want them to be, and conforming to web standards. Sure, there are many other very important things to focus on, but these three items have always been important to me; from the past eight years through the foreseeable future, every project will include work on these items.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an ever-changing game, but even in it there are some things that are very consistent. Title tags will always be important in ranking for your keyword. The text used in URL will likely always be important. Ensuring that people link to you will always be important. I’ve been focusing on these aspects for years and it’ll likely never change. Now though, there are many other things to focus on, such as long-tail opportunities, keyword research, social media, blogging, and more!

Converting visitors into customers, commenters, or return visitors is another item of focus and always has been. We always build sites with the end goal always in the forefront of our minds. It’s important to keep in mind that if you’re building an e-commerce site, you should focus on converting visitors into customers. Likewise, if you’re building a blog, you would want to turn visitors into commenters or repeat visitors. There are many different ways to achieve your and a goal, so always keep in mind what you want to accomplish, and then test ideas is to accomplish that goal.

Web standards is something that has always been important to me. Web standards are important because they ensure that your website will show up in a consistent format across many different types of browsers. From Internet Explorer to Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, and Flock - there are now many many different browsers to choose from. Ensuring that your site shows up in the same way on heat a browser is very important. Additionally, search engines really love code that is standard compliant. You tend to rank higher if you have a standard compliant and fast loading web site.

So, as you can see, some fads come and go but there are some things in web design and development that have been true since the beginning. Search engine optimization, conversions, and standards compliance will always be important to you when working on a web site.

A script is the basic ingredient for any successful telemarketing campaign. If it is before the sale or after the sale, scripts should be designed in order to improve the results of telemarketing. However, many text books on this subject fail to address this point and if they do, they rarely give it the importance it deserves.

The Pre-Call is very important. An excellent way to get leads and open doors is to make calls to confirm or obtain data on potential customers. These calls should be treated as pre-sales calls, and should not be aimed at making a sale.

Pre calls are done for a number of reasons. First of all, to check the name and address of the business and the name of title of one buyer. Second, to find out what the business does and how big it is. Finally you may want to initiate contact to use telemarketing.

Pre-calls must last one minute or less in total. Their purpose is by no means making a sale. You will do that during your official telemarketing campaign. The people who answer the phone in companies rarely have enough time to engage in long conversations, they will gladly answer to your questions as long as they are short and easy.

In the current business world it is hard to reach the person who makes the ultimate decisions on sales. The people in charge usually have people in order to screen their calls: receptionists, secretaries or assistants.

You may also run into a machine when you would like to speak with a real person instead. These are the challenges people in telemarketing frequently encounter. These barriers should not stop the telemarketer. Unless it has not been specified, there is always hope to close a sale. Some of the barriers may actually turn into allies once they are convinced of the appeal of the product.

Telemarketing campaigns must always make use of scripts in order to make the process more efficient for both parties. The script should quickly inform the caller of the reason of your call and provide information of your product or service. If the script does its job, you will make your sale.

It is reasonable to engage in a slow process before telemarketing when the sales are substantial.

If you were to have a store in the real world but never had any customers walk through your doors, how long would you expect to stay in business? The same is also true whenever you are talking about your Internet business and in order for you to be successful, you need to make sure that your website is positioned in such a way that it can be found. Not only does it need to be found, it needs to be found by people who are actually looking for what it is that you are offering. This is the very core of search engine optimization, something that an increasing number of webmasters are paying attention to.

Although many people understand a few basics about search engine optimization, not all of them understand exactly how it is done so that they would do it properly. Optimizing your website improperly can actually hurt your rankings for a very long time, much worse than not optimizing them at all. It is important for you to hire this work out to somebody who really understands the entire process of optimizing a website properly. We use Alex Miller for all of our website projects and highly recommend him.

There are two basic types of search engine optimization that you need to understand, external and internal optimization. Neither of these is really more important than the other but unless there is a proper balance that is done between the two, you might end up with results that are not quite what you are expecting. Here is a little bit about each type of optimization.

Internal optimization, often referred to as on page optimization is basically making sure that the keyword or keyword phrases that you are targeting are placed properly on your website. They need to be in certain tags on the webpage along with being in the body of the webpage itself. You would also want to make sure that it is used naturally throughout the page or you might suffer a penalty as a result.

External optimization, usually referred to as off-site optimization has to do with gathering links to your website. There is a fine art to doing this, and if it is done properly you can really reap a lot of rich rewards in the way of free traffic. If you do it improperly or ever do it, you might be put in the sandbox and end up not receiving any traffic for a considerable amount of time. That is another reason to hire a search engine optimization expert, such as Alex Miller.

One of the reasons why we enjoy working with Alex Miller so much is because he has the tools that are necessary to get the job done. Although all of us have access to these tools, very few of us know about them or understand how to use them properly. It is better to allow a professional to do his job and to get to the traffic that you really need in order to launch your business to the next level.

Don’t try to take on this important task on your own. Make sure that you hire the services out to Alex Miller and allow him to get your website ranking well for you. It will be money well spent once the visitor start flowing in.
